International Crime Tribunal-2 will deliver verdict on Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, Assistant Secretary General of Jamat-e-Islami tomorrow. The tribunal finished hearing the case on 16 April 2013.
Police arrested this Jamat leader on July 2010.
The two International War Crimes Tribunal have already delivered 3 verdicts so far including Former Jamat Leader Abul Kalam Azad and the party’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayeedee.
7 Complaints against Kamaruzzaman
The tribunal took the formal changes into cognizance on January 31, 2012 and the trial began on June 4 on the same year. According to the charges placed by prosecution, Kamaruzzaman established Al Badr, a local paramilitary force to help Pakistani Army during liberation war.
According to Prosecution, Kamaruzzaman was involved in genocide, rape, killing and looting on the time. Procession submitted 7 complaint against the Jamat leader including genocide and murder, torture and crimes against humanity and forcing people to leave country.
1. Killing Badiuzzaman
A team of Al Badr men led by Kamaruzzaman kidnapped Badiuzzaman, son of Fazlul Haque of Kalinagar at Nalitabari in Sherpur from the house of Ahmed Member of Ramanagar village at Jhenaigati in Sherpur and sent him to Pakistani camp. The next day, he was tortured and killed. Later his dead body was dumped into river.
2. Torture of lecturer Abdul Hannan
Kamaruzzaman and his associates tortured Abdul Hannan, lecturer of Sherpur College in one afternoon of May. His head was shaved, his body and face was colored and he was made to walk down in naked condition on the street of Sherpur. He was hugely tortured that time.
3. Genocide at Shohagpur
On July 25, 1971, Pakistani Army and Al Badr men jointly attacked Shohagpur in Sherpur district. They carried out arbitrary acts and raped women of the village. It was planned and advised by Kamaruzzaman where 120 people were killed.
4. Killing of Golam Mostafa
Albadr men captured Golam Mostafa and took him to Al Badr camp at Surendra Mohan Shaha’s home. Kamaruzzaman ordered to kill him.
5. Murdering eight
Al-Badr men captured Liakat Ali and 11 others from Chawkbazar at Sherpur in the middle of a Ramadan month during the war. All but three were shot dead in presence of Kamaruzzaman.
6. Murdering Tunu
Kamaruzzaman ordered Al Badr men to capture Tunu and Jahangir and take them to Mymensigh Zilla Parishad Dak Banglo. Later Tunu was killed following by tortured and Jahangir was released.
7. Killing of six
Al Badr men led by Kamaruzzaman captured Tepa Mia, his son Jahurul Islam Dara and 5 other people and brought them to Al badr camp. Next day they were brought to Brahmaputra River. Al badr men tied their hands and charged bayonets. Tepa mia jumped on the river while he was being charged and was able to escape from them. Al badr then killed the rest 6 people.
